The "Icebreaker" Projects
The Identity Maps and "Unfair" projects were our introduction into the curriculum of the second semester of Humanities, which focused on literature and perspectives (lenses, if you will.)
The Identity Maps were the first activities. To start, we took a blank sheet of paper and wrote our names in the center, and surrounded it by writing down all of the labels that we could think of for ourselves, and connecting them to our names. This was the "icebreaker" part of the project, as it gave us a chance to understand the perspective that we see ourselves through.
The "Unfair" activity took that lens-viewing a step forward. Each student had a photo of his or her face taken, and on the photo we wrote down our individual labels that we had come up with for the Identity Maps, framing our faces and features with them. Below is one such photo.
