San Diego Opera's mission sttement, as crtl+v'd here is,"The mission of San Diego Opera is to deliver exceptional vocal performances and exciting, accessible programs to diverse audiences, focusing on community engagement and the transformative power of live performance." This statement is very much followed almost to the letter from what I've seen so far. The productivity in the office, the meetings held, the deadlines and schedules to be met are all for the sake of preparing for only a few amzing performances a year. On my first day I was part of a meeting that lasted nearly 2 hours; all of it was hashing out details and updates on the next single performance that would be done. The people here at SDOpera are dedicated to this mission, I can see clearly, and I've only been here 2 days.

So today was the my first day; it went very smoothly. There was a once-every-other-week meeting that I was part of, though I didn't do much else than introduce myself and listen. Most of it was non-profit organizing lingo that I didn't fully get, but one of the people(I've forgotten her name already) had brought pastries in honor of David's birthday(another co-worker.) After that, I got settled into my own cubicle and computer, and then helped to fill out a spreadsheet for grant research. Hopefully tomorrow will be productive as today was.
(Cubicle pictures below) I honestly don't know what to have fears or hopes for. I wasn't nervous during the interview and tour of the office, everyone was warm and friendly, and I'm under the wing of a mentor that knows what they're doing. I don't have to fear that I won't know what I'm doing, I won't have to hope to find someone friendly; I'm coming in ready to learn. The only thing I have thoughts about is the grant researching, but I'm sure that I'll pick it up quick. Well, tomorrow will tell.
Well, I did it! I nailed the interview, and I'll be interning at the San Diego Opera during January. It was much less stressful than I thought it would be, because as it turns out, Tina, the person who extended the internship opportunity, has had both of her daughters graduate from HTHI. She was familiar with the intern process, so that smoothed things out wonderfully. I also met the staff that I'll be working with (all of them warm and friendly.) My job will primarily be to help research grant opportunities for the opera, and help anyone around the office that needs it. Excited for it to start!
